Brick Ark Inn History

The property was originally deeded to William Engle by the U.S. Government in 1836. Construction of the home began in 1877 and was completed in 1880. Since 2000, the Inn has undergone a major transformation to preserve its historic beauty and renovate the Bed & Breakfast. Prior to Tammy's ownership, the Richard C. Prickett family called the Inn home for 50 years. Richard and Susan Prickett's granddaughter is actress Anne Heche.

The home was built with a double brick construction. It has 12" x 12" wood beams and plaster-on-brick walls. Its unique features include 10-foot ceilings throughout the home, quarter-sawn oak floors, oak and walnut curved staircases, alcoves, angles, nooks, curved walls, detailed molding, pocket doors, and transom windows. Tammy has poured her heart and soul into restoring and preserving this beautiful historic home.

The Brick Ark has been a dream coming to reality.  I have enjoyed building the bed & breakfast and had to demolition a large section of my original home.  It is difficult to tear down your kitchen, bath, laundry and storage room, knowing that it will take several months to rebuild.  The name is based on the story of Noah in the Bible.  During the building phase, the task was so great, with hundreds of decisions and months of work, that it must be how Noah felt building the Ark.    I have been involved in every step of the process from the design, framing, drywall, painting, landscaping  & trim.  I have been the General Contractor and the laborer attending to every detail.  I have learned so much about building and wouldn't trade this opportunity for anything.  It has all been worth it and I am so pleased to welcome you into my home.

Guests will enjoy the 1880 Brick Italianate home with beautiful oak woodwork, winding staircase, pocket doors, transoms, hardwood floors, clawfoot tub and fireplace.  Guests will love the warmth and comfort of the newly renovated addition with all the amenities, five private rooms & baths, each unique in design, color & style.

...A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it...(Genesis 6:16)
